A Statement from Mayor Scott W. Anderson

On Thursday, May 1, 2025, the Government of Ontario extended Strong Mayor Powers to an additional 170 municipalities — including the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio.

As Mayor, I believe that the true strength of municipal government rests in collaboration and mutual respect among elected officials. Since the beginning of this 2022–2026 term, our Council has made meaningful progress by working together collaboratively. I remain committed to leading with that same spirit of cooperation and efficient decisionmaking
at the Council table, regardless of the new “strong mayor” powers now granted to me. Together, we will continue shaping a strong, resilient, and inclusive future for our community.

I respect the Province's decision to extend these additional responsibilities to our municipality. They offer another tool to help advance shared priorities between the Township and the Province of Ontario.

In the interest of transparent and effective governance, I have made three Mayoral Decisions to delegate certain responsibilities under the Municipal Act. Effective today, I have delegated authority of organizational structure to our Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), along with the responsibility of appointing Committees of Council and the hiring of the CAO to Council.

It’s important to note that while some powers under the Municipal Act cannot be delegated, I will carry out those duties with integrity, fairness, and a strong sense of public service.

I remain dedicated to serving the residents of Adjala-Tosorontio with accountability and respect and will
continue to lead in a way that fosters trust, cooperation, and good governance.

Sincerely,

Mayor Scott W. Anderson
